A Gatsby Affair: Fall Wedding

A beautifully detailed not-so-fall wedding in Philly that left me wanting to go back in time to the 20s.  The bride's dress, the antique reception hall, the champagne glasses, the music.  Everything screamed  The Great Gatsby.

Such a great weekend with family.  Couldn't ask for more. Well, maybe for not to have been 90 degrees in October, but I won't really complain about that!

Vintage Finds: Original by Robert

While walking back home from a rainy brunch day I stumbled upon a gem.  A vintage store. The ever flowing window display of vintage Chanel earrings, YSL bracelets and big bohemian rings caught my eye.  The shop was filled with vintage jewelry placed not one centimeter apart from each other.  An organized chaos. After talking to the owner, a very knowledgeable man from Iran, this Original by Robert brooch caught my eye.

Original by Robert is a staple in the vintage world.  It began in New York City as The Fashioncraft Jewelry Co. and was renamed Robert Originals Inc. in the early 1960s. The jewelry can date back to the 40's, and from the design of this, I would say it was definitely inspired by that era.  I am in love with my art deco brooch (soon to be necklace pendant).

Vintage Treasures from Mama

Back in June, when I went home to visit my family, my mom had some vintage hand me downs she had kept from when she was young(er).  She gave me three skinny snakeskin belts and some crazy 80's earring that can break my ear off. HEAVY!

My mom was so breathtaking beautiful and had the best style.  I look at her pictures and always complain that she should have kept her 60's mod and 70's disco outfits that I still salivate over.

Huge and clip-ons.  What the heck am I going to do with these?? I'm thinking of adding one to a long gold chain and making it a statement piece.

LOVE!  And like new too.

Sporting it with a dress she gave me.

Mama

My mom grew up in a very conservative and rural town in Puerto Rico.  Regardless of her humble upbringings, I've never met anyone with such style and class.  For me, she is the perfect example of how your background doesn't define who you are and what you are meant to be.  This is her at 21, right before leaving to Europe and the other picture is her in Paris. I love these vintage pictures of her. She was such an amazing woman then and such an amazing mom now.  Happy Mother's Day mama, te amo!!!

Vintage on 17th St.

I love walking around this city, especially in the more "residential" areas (so no Lexington Ave, or Herald Square, yuck).  This weekend while taking a stroll through Chelsea I stumbled upon Pippin Vintage Jewelry and I was transported through time for a split second.  The pins, the watches, the gorgeous cocktail rings make you want to drop a grand in things that you wish your grandma had bought a long time ago.
I fell in love with this eye catching gold disk from the 1800's.  With a pin converter it would have made an awesome necklace but I held back and bought silk scarves instead.  Chic and cheap.  I don't worry, that disk will find its way back to me eventually.

My Old is New Again Vera Neumann silk scarf that I'll be proudly displaying as a tribute to New Orleans.  I love the fleur de lis.

Happy Papi's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there that have raised their children from the beginning, who have shown them to respect themselves and others, who have instilled the meaning of work. Cheers to the fathers who have provided stable homes, who have taught their children right and wrong and have supplied unconditional love and support to the family unit. I could not have asked for a better father and for that I will be forever grateful. Feliz dia de los padres a mi papa y a todos!
