March Mood Board

Spring begins on March 20th so this month I am dreaming of different tones of pink and flowers blooming.  NYC is reborn come Spring.  It really is pretty marvelous to experience.  Everyone seems happy again.  The restaurants offer outdoor seating, day drinking becomes a fun activity again, the trees are impregnated with white flowers and the sun shines longer.

Is This Paris or New York?

old buildings paris or new york

Have you ever walked around the Upper West Side on a Sunday afternoon? After reaching 60th street, you feel like you've reached another city. Everything is so much cleaner, organized and people seem saner.  Looking up makes me think I am actually in Paris.

The UWS is an alternate universe.

In Honor of NYFW: Fashion Illustrations from Westminster

While looking at Pinterest, I clicked on a NYFW hashtag (there are hashtags on Pinterest?) which led me to this absolutely breathtaking board put together by the University of Westminster.  The board featured illustrations from their students depicting the season's runway looks as well as their own designs.   I don't know about you but I want to be able to buy these and put them around my house.  I mean, the illustrations are simply breathtaking.  What talent!

Check out the entire board here and additional illustrations from the artist that oversees the course, Richard Gray.

“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”

Portland, Oregon based photographer Jon Duenas mixes landscape with portraits.  His work is both fascinating and original.  I highly advise you to visit his site or blog.

Why the quote?  Somehow it popped in my mind when I saw this picture...and I love Albert Camus.

Artsy Fartsy: The Falling Garden

I wish I had known about this when I visit Venice in 2005. So now it's on the to do list when I go back. This unique and breathtaking installation lives in San Staë church on the Canale Grande. It was created in 2003 and hopefully it is still there. It was created by Swiss artists Gerda Steiner and Jörg Lenzlinger.

From the artists's website, you can learn about their inspiration for the installation and what its composed of: Plastic berries (India), cow pads (Jura), waste paper (Venice), baobab seeds (Australia), beech, elder and magnolia branches (Uster), thorns (Almeria), nylon blossoms (one-dollar-shop), pigs’ teeth (Indonesia), seaweed (Seoul), orange peel (Migros shop), fertilizer crystals (home grown), pigeons’ bones (San Staë), silk buds (Stockholm), cattail (Ettiswil), cats’ tails (China), celery roots (Montreal), virility rind (Caribbean), wild bore quills (zoo), banana leaves (Murten), rubber snakes (Cincinnati)... Lovely.

A Day at The Met

Everyday in New York City can be a day to be a tourist even if you live here.  For me, it never gets old.  I've been to The Met many many times and every time I go I find a new painter I like, a new hall I haven't visited and a new reason to keep going back.  No matter what, I always have to pass by the Impressionist and  Post-Impressionist gallery.  How I wish to have lived in Paris in the late 1800's and meet all of these amazing painters.

Alex Box, One of a Kind

If you haven't heard of Alex Box, I'm happy to introduce you to her.  She is the world renowned creative director of Illamasqua and she is not a makeup artist, she is a painter.  Her coffee table book is both fascinating and entertaining.
