Farewell to Summer: Output Edition

Today is the last day of summer and to bid adieu to my favorite season, my friends and I spent Saturday dancing until dusk at Output to celebrate Amanda's birthday. The weather was perfect and  Beto Cravioto definitely set a festive mood.  It was refreshing to actually see a DJ use vinyl.  Definitely worth checking out.

Seriously good people (oh, yeah, that's me!)

So long, my sweet sweet summer.

It's Friday: Tune

If there is one thing that I am known for is having good taste in music, or at least an "eclectic" schizophrenic taste.  I honestly like almost anything and change genres constantly.  One day it can be full on Led Zeppelin, the next reggae roots, and later some French house. with some One Direction sprinkled in there (my guilty pleasure).  So, with that in mind, here is a song I've been playing on repeat for a while and will be playing well into the weekend.

Hope to make "Friday I'm In Love" a weekly blog series sharing just simple things I love, like music, a recipe, a link, etc. Have a great one and please leave that darn office early!

Street Snaps

Some snapshots from my productive Saturday.  Strolling the streets of New York rejuvenates me.

The illest public art space in the city, the Centre-Fuge trailer on 1st Street, which changes every two months I believe.  Check out some of the other designs here.

 LES
Cute boys playing street hockey on 6th and Houston.  Highly advise a visit.  Apparently they are there every Saturday.

Hope you enjoy the song I'm sharing as much as I do.

Bits of My Weekend

So many people were out of town this weekend for pre-4th of July so the city was pretty quiet.

Enjoyed vegan fare at Cafe Blossom, tanned in my rooftop, sang along at Canal Room for 80's night and saw the UEFA final. All without the massive herds of people. Perfect.

A few snapshot from the weekend...

 Two subway pics merged together.

One of the two very fat cats lounging at Bleecker Street Records.

My favorite purchase in a very long time.  Original Led Zeppelin Vinyl.  First album.

The Gehry always amazes me, even if I live so close to it.

Bits of My Weekend

The sun was out all weekend long which meant I was outside all weekend long :)

Off to Coney Island for the Annual Mermaid Parade.  I was too busy staring at painted boobs of all shapes, sizes and ages that I forgot to take pictures.  It is a very weird parade but worth experiencing.

Love everything about this building, especially the girls on the top in the fire escape.

Sidewalk art.

Brunch at L'Express.  Open 24 hrs.

Weekend Recap: Candlewood Lake

This weekend was very relaxing on the outside and stressful in the inside.  My friend’s place at Candlewood Lake was so serene.  We took his boat out and cruised around the lake.  Visited big rocks to jump off of, found 50 ft. rope swings and cooked a feast that ended in jumbo s’mores.  Sunday, I spent walking around the Orchard Street Festival before getting soaked by an impromptu storm.  But I couldn’t’ stop thinking about back home.
On Friday my cousin’s husband lost his little brother.  He was 27 years old and literally just died in his sleep.  His family is extremely close.  Four brothers with a love like no other.  The mom was so proud of them and so attached to them, as she should be.  Now the void that this has caused has changed their lives forever.  That mom will never be the same.  My mom’s birthday was on Sunday and unfortunately she spent it mourning this loss and going to a wake.
The reason I write this is not to bum anyone out but to take a step back and reflect upon this. He was 27.  It just happened.  At this age we think we are immortal and our problems are usually extremely petty and superficial.  “Will this guy ever call me back?”, “I need this” , “I want that”.  If you were to die tomorrow, would be happy with the life you lived today?  What about your relationships?  When was the last time you told a sibling you loved them?  This really have made me think, maybe more than it should.  Hopefully it makes you think too.  Maybe it makes you want to do more with your life now or just look around and tell God “Thank you, for today, I am alive”.

Weekend Recap

The weather this weekend was perfect.  I am so stoked the summer is finally here.  The city just changes.  Life simply feels better.

A Good Weekend

Happy Friday/Good Friday /Passover!  Today was an absolutely beautiful day in NYC and I was lucky enough to spend it taking in fresh air in Central Park.  Mama is in town, and when mama is town I become a tourist.  I hadn't been in Central Park since last summer so it was a nice treat.  Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be sunny and in the 60s so be sure to leave the PJ's and Mad Men marathon behind.  Enjoy the weekend.
